Are we seeing a Lakers Big 3?

Would a Lakers “Big 3” of Anthony Davis (from left), LeBron James and Klay Thompson be enough to win an NBA title? Reuters

Every report coming out nowadays that’s related to Anthony Davis’ status in New Orleans should be treated with a grain of salt.

But it’s hard not to let one’s imagination run wild — especially fans of the Los Angeles Lakers — at the prospect of Davis transferring addresses, especially when it comes to its derivative effects on other player movements.

The Lakers look to be the All-Star center’s primary target, and even though such a move wouldn’t do much to derail the (currently constructed) Golden State Warriors’ march to another title it would for sure be seismic nonetheless.

Would a Davis-LeBron James combo entice a third big name to come join the Lakers in Hollywood? Perhaps.

ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski has gone on to say that if that becomes a reality, Klay Thompson would mull heading to Southern California.

According to Woj on SportsCenter right now, Klay would be really interested in the Lakers if LA deals for AD and open up a close-to-max slot in FA. And this is also presuming that GS doesn’t offer Klay the full max.

Thompson is poised to become an unrestricted free agent this summer and he could leave the Warriors if a sweeter offer comes hi way, even though the prevailing thinking around the league is that it’s unlikely.

Again, these are all speculation.

The Lakers are known for inviting — and creating — a lot of drama, and the past few days has been no exception. James’ camp apparently wants a new coach, and if the Lakers want to get Davis they would apparently have to give up their entire young core.

Stay tuned.
