Carlos Yulo wins all-around gold at Asian Championships

The Philippines’ Carlos Yulo made his mark at the 17th Junior & 11th Senior Men Artistic Gymnastics Asian Championships held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

After performing 6 of the apparatus—Floor Exercise, Pommel Horse, Still Rings, Vault, Parallel Bars, and Horizontal Bar—Yulo bagged the men’s individual all-around gold with 84.931 points.

Milad Karimi of Kazakhstan placed second with 84.632 points, while Abdulla ranked third Azimov of Uzbekistan with 82.431 points.

In the 2023 edition of the tournament in Singapore, Yulo dominated the Floor Exercise, Vault, and Parallel Bars. He got silver in all-around and a bronze in the Horizontal Bar. Similarly, in Doha in 2022, Yulo bagged the gold in the same 3 apparatus, and the silver in the all-around.

Aside from Yulo’s victory, it was also a good day for the senior members of Team Philippines who placed fifth in the team all-around. The Philippines came after China, Uzbekistan, Korea, and Kyrgyzstan.

MAG members who also participated in the competition included team captain Justine Ace De Leon, Miguel Besana, John Ivan Cruz, and John Romeo Santillan.

Carlos’ younger brother, Eldrew Yulo, will compete in the junior division qualifiers on Friday.
