Tagum City – A mammoth of crowd herded at the Christ the King Cathedral last June 20, 2018 to witness the Episcopal Ordination and Installation of Most Reverend Medil Sacay Aseo, D.D. as the fourth bishop of the Diocese of Tagum.

Bishop Aseo was ordained by Most Reverend Romulo G. Valles, D.D. the Archbishop of Davao City, as the Principal Ordaining Bishop together with two co-ordaining Bishops, the Apostolic Administrator Most Reverend Wilfredo Manlapaz, D.D., Bishop Emeritus of Tagum City and Most Reverend Edward Malesic, D.D., Bishop of Greensburg.

For 39 fruitful years of service to God and the people after his presbyterate last April 7, 1979, Bishop-elect Aseo then, was nominated by Bishop Emeritus Manlapaz to succeed and lead the diocese of Tagum.

Present in the canonical celebration were the bigwigs of the government sector and religious groups. Tagum City Mayor Allan L. Rellon, House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez, Davao del Norte Governor Anthony del Rosario and the members of the 7th City council of Tagum graced the celebration.

Most Reverend Gabriele Caccia, the Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines, was amazed upon witnessing that the State and the Church became one in celebrating the Ordination and Installation. He expressed his delight by saying “the government and the church should and must work hand-in-hand in the service of mankind, for the good of the country and the children of God.”

He added that the best gift to be given to Bishop Aseo is when we become the better versions of ourselves.

The “Joy in Obedience” from Psalm 40:8 was the Episcopal motto the new Bishop as an expression of his deep devotion in serving God and the people through the will and guidance of the most high.

The new bishop is a native of Maniki, Kapalong, Davao del Norte. JP Cordovero/CIO Tagum
