Compostela Valley Province—-The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Compostela Valley Field Office under Provincial Director (PD) Atty. Lucky Siegfred Balleque conducts price monitoring and enforcement (Bantay Presyo) on October 5, 2018 at the selected malls and supermarket within the province.
The activity is in line with the October celebration as the “Consumer Welfare Month” (CWM) by the virtue of the proclamation number 1098 signed by President Fidel V. Ramos on September 26, 1997.
This year’s theme: “Making Digital Marketplaces Fairer.”
Prior to the program is the conduct of the CWM motorcade, price monitoring and enforcement within Poblacion, Nabunturan, Comval.
Joining the motorcade were the participants and members of the Local Price Monitoring Council (LPCC), DTI Comval employees led by PD Balleque, government employees, Comval Consumer Organization, retailers and tricycle association.
PD Balleque expressed his gratitude to the management of the Gaisano Grand Mall in Nabunturan for allowing them to conduct the program and to have the month-long exhibit area of the mandatory products approved by the DTI standards.
He said that the CWM celebration is to promote the dissemination of sound consumer information on subjects that affects the consumers and to encourage dialogue in cooperation among the consumers business and government sectors in strengthening consumer rights awareness and protection.
“Magpasalamat me ug sa tanang kunsumante for making our consumers protected,” said Balleque.
He also explained about the importance of the product standard saying that “it is a set of condition to be fulfilled to ensure the quality and safety of the product.”
“Sa atong mga consumers even sa mga nagabaligya dapat ang atong ginabaligya or atong ginapalit kung imported siya dapat naay tatak na ICC or kung locally manufactured dapat naay PS Standard marked ,” said Balleque.
“That’s the very purpose why we are celebrating also the International Standards Day part of the CWM celebration to ensure that the product has the quality and safe for use or consumption of the people,” he said.
Meanwhile, during the program a ceremonial toast led by PD Balleque together with the participants was also done using the tumbler of the DTI as token and labelled by the product standards information to symbolize the celebration of the CWM and the 44th National Standards Week (NSW) in October 8-14 as well as the World Standards Day (WSD) in October 14.
After the program the members of the LPCC as well as the media present immediately proceeded to the grocery area of the said mall to conduct the price monitoring and enforcement of the basic needs and prime commodities such us rice, vegetables, chicken, meat products, canned goods, milks and other products.
“This is to monitor and to ensure that the Suggested Retail Price (SRP) is applied for every product,” said Balleque.
On the other hand, the members of the LPCC also went to the municipality of Compostela to conduct the price monitoring of the Agriculture Commodities in the public market and on one of the supermarket in the said town.
