Cop guns down two brods in Calinan riot

A police officer gunned down two brothers in Calinan, Davao City after they ganged up on him while responding to a riot Tuesday night.

The Calinan Police Station identified the slain brothers as Jomar Q.  Mante, 26 and Jovany Q. Mante, 23, both of Tambobong,  Baguio District while the responding policeman as PO1 Mark Anthony Corsino.

Police report bared that around 9:00p.m. of October 24, Corsino was responding to a call regarding a disturbance perpetrated allegedly by the siblings along Magsaysay Street in Calinan.

When the officer alighted from the police vehicle, the brothers along with other three men surrounded Corsino and one of the suspects attempted to disarm the policeman by threatening him with a home-made handgun.

Corsino was able to parry the handgun but it was resulted to a scuffle with the suspects.

During the struggle, the service pistol of Corsino fell down, went off and took one of the siblings on the chest.

The other companion of the brothers took hold of the homemade gunman and pointed it to Corsino who was pinned on the ground.

But the police officer managed to get hold of his gun and shot at the other Mante who fell to the ground.

The other three suspects fled but two of them identified as Jirel Mante Casayas and a minor were arrested by the back-up of Corsino.

The suspect identified as alias Benjie was able to evade the responding police.

In yesterday’s AFP-PNP Press Corps forum, Davao City Police Office director Sr. Supt.  Alexander Tagum said his office will conduct an investigation of the incident.
