The Regional Civil Security Unit revealed it has conducted two caravans in each province in the region to remind gun holders to renew their renewal of license to own and possess firearm (LTOPF).
They were joined by representatives of the Philippine National Police, National Bureau of Investigation, Regional Trial Courts and other pertinent government agencies to encourage gun holders to renew their licenses without difficulties.
“But in spite of this effort, most gun holders did not show up at the caravans,” said P/Supt Cydric Earl Tamayo, chief of the Regional Civil Security Unit as guest of the AFP-PNP press conference on Wednesday.
He said his office is considerate in allowing people to take their time in renewing their licenses.
He said Oplan Katok was also being conducted to inform gun holders to renew their licenses, to avoid being the object of future search warrants.
He admitted that stringent requirements in applying for LTOPF is one reason why only few people are securing one.
Since the implementation of Republic Act 1059, also known as Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, the number of un-renewed firearms went up because of the 11 requirements needed to apply for LTOPF.
“Dati firearms license card lang wala yung LTOPF yung picture na pinapasa mali-mali, iba yung picture iba yung pangalan so there were some cases na fictitious yung application,” he said.
He said the region has a total of 11,011 un-renewed LTOPF. Another effort done was the provisional LTOPF which is valid for nine months.
“The requirements were only accomplished application form, government issued I.D and payment then we will give you the provisional LTOPF then you can now renew your guns at of Regional Civil Security Unit 11,” said Tamayo.
He said that Davao City is very fortunate because the printer for the licenses is situated in the Regional Civil Security Unit 11.
Despite of this, 300 people have availed themselves of the program.
