The Davao City Police Office has expressed elation over the advice issued by Davao Archbishop Romulo Valles for the public not to condemn the police in their war against illegal drugs.
Valles, the incoming president of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines, advised that the public instead should inspire the police “to perform their duty according to law.”
DCPO spokesperson Sr. Insp. Maria Teresita Gaspan said the statement of Valles is a big motivation for them to do their job well. “We are very thankful with the support of the church for our campaign,” Gaspan said.
Gaspan admitted the campaign against illegal drugs is difficult to implement, an assessment shared by other law enforcement agencies handling the anti-illegal drugs campaign.
“We are happy that Archbishop Valles recognized the huge problem of illegal drugs in our society,” she said.
With the statement of Valles, Gaspan said that the Catholic Church is now seeing the destruction of illegal drugs that can be brought especially to the future generation children.
“This problem on illegal drugs should be solved as soon as possible,” she said. She said despite with the strict campaign on illegal drugs, law enforcers are still able to arrest drug suspects in some operations.
