A total of five persons perished, including a two-year old girl, while 13 others were injured in various incidents related to Tropical Storm Vinta Friday and Saturday. This was learned from sources at the Davao Risk Reduction Management Office which collated reporters about the typhoon from various parts of Mindanao.
Two of the fatalities were victims of a landslide in Barangay Laligan, Iligan City. They were identified as Efipania Mirabueno, 65 and Irene Mirabueno, her two-year old grandchild. The landslide victims were brought to a nearby hospital, but were pronounced dead by 1:45 p.m. on Friday, the report stated.
In another report, an inmate was killed and 13 others were injured when the roof of the Butuan City Jail collapsed due to strong winds and heavy rains spawned by storm Vinta.
In still another typhoon-related report, the Lanao del Sur Risk Reduction and Management Office bared that two girls, a Grade 2 and a Grade 5 pupils were buried alive following a landslide in the town of Tugaya, around 25 kilometers south of Marawi City,
Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said that Vinta was spotted last Friday shortly after noon in the vicinity of Marawi City, Lanao del Sur.
PAGASA said Vinta has accelerated slightly, now moving west at 20 kph and the storm is expected to exit Philippine territory on Christmas Eve and warned the public to take Vinta seriously, saying they should prepare and closely monitor updates from PAGASA.
