MEMBERS of the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (DCCCII) unanimously approved a resolution seeking to extend the corporate life of the Chamber for another 50 years.
This was learned from Arturo M. Milan, DCCCII president, who said chamber board chairman Antonio T. dela Cruz presided over the meeting that tackled the resolution during the regular monthly meeting of the chamber last Friday, June 29, at the ballroom of the Royal Mandaya Hotel on Palma Gil Street, Davao City.
The motion was presented by DCCCII Vice President for Professional Service Ventures John Carlo B. Tria, who happens to be the chairman this year of the Davao Agri Trade Expo (DATE), the biggest, longest running agricultural and trade exposition in Mindanao to be staged in Davao City in September.
The chamber was chartered on July 4, 1968 with the late Ambassador Ramon Tirol as founding president. Of the 15 businessmen and professionals who started DCCCII, only four are still alive today –former president Jose B. Custodio, former Davao del Norte governor, congressman and two-time cabinet secretary Rodolfo del Rosario, lawyer Honesto Cabarroguis Jr. and businessman Johnny Bosquit.
Although no one opposed the resolution last Friday, Milan said, several members present stood up to emphasize the importance of extending the corporate life of the multi-awarded chamber of commerce. The members who participated in the discussion included businessman and retired journalist Nilo Claudio, who once served as chamber executive director, past president Manuel “Bobby” Orig, lawyer Myra Quilatan of the ACCRA law firm, chamber member and legal consultant, past president Bonifacio Tan, trustee Antonio M. Ajero and DCCCII honorary life chairman Sebastian L. Angliongto.
The approved resolution with the signature of at least two-thirds of the chamber’s regular members and other required documents will be submitted to the Securities and Exchange Commission.
The resolution’s approval came as the chamber prepares for a grand celebration and meaningful activities during its 50th anniversary next month. The celebration chairman is Dr. Ma. Lourdes G. Monteverde, past DCCCII president.
