The world, chiefly economic leaders and investors in advanced countries, is closely watching developments in the Philippines, particularly how things will turn out as a result of a favorable vote in the plebiscite on the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) in Mindanao.
This was the assessment of Dr. Ma. Lourdes G. Monteverde, past president of the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (DCCCII) and active real estate industry practitioner, in a dialogue with business reporters attending the weekly Habi at Kape media forum at Abreeza Mall yesterday.
A Davao-based honorary consul for Mexico, Dr. Monteverde said governments and big investors in Japan, Malaysia , China and other neighboring countries, including multi-national companies already operating in the Philippines, have long been bullish about Mindanao’s business prospects but many of them are holding back their investment and business expansion plans until they are sure of the positive impact of the BOL implementation.
She said most level-headed Filipinos think that the BOL is a boon to Mindanao’s development and economic progress as it will be a major factor in achieving a long-lasting peace in the island region.
In an earlier story, no less than President Rodrigo R. Duterte had urged the voters of Mindanao to approve the BOL as it will correct the historical injustices committed against the Bangsamoro people. ANTONIO M. AJERO
