US tech firm Salesforce investing in PH, DTI says

California-based technology firm Salesforce, Inc. will launch its operations in the Philippines this year, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said Tuesday.

The DTI said in a statement that Secretary Cristina Roque met with Salesforce executive vice president and general manager Adam Evans and executive vice president for global government affairs Eric Loeb on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, wherein the executives expressed the firm’s plan to invest in the Philippines.

Salesforce is a cloud-based software company providing applications focusing on sales, customer service, marketing automation, e-commerce, analytics, artificial intelligence, and application development.

The DTI said the US-based customer relationship management (CRM) firm’s decision to invest in the Philippines was influenced by the positive feedback from its business clients, particularly on business environment and the government’s digital transformation efforts.

“Salesforce is expected to create numerous job opportunities, boost the country’s digital transformation efforts, and strengthen its position as a key player in the Asia Pacific region,” the agency said.

The DTI said Salesforce is also looking into partnering with top universities and organizations in the country to upskill Filipino talents and empower micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Roque also invited the company to put up a shared service facility in the country to boost collaboration on artificial intelligence among stakeholders.

Asked about the investment value and jobs generation of Salesforce, the DTI has yet to share the details of the discussion with the firm.

Meanwhile, the DTI chief is part of the country’s high-level delegation that includes House Speaker Martin Romualdez and Finance Secretary Ralph Recto, among others, to the WEF Annual Meeting in Davos from Jan. 20 to 24. (PNA)
