ISIS came to the Muslims as a friend and as a defender. ISIS was first seen as the long-awaited Muslim knights who will bring victory to the oppressed Muslims who have been suffering for a long time under the colonial rule or even from their own secular governments. ISIS propaganda was easily received by Muslims as good news and some are even gullible enough to believe that this is the victory we all have been waiting for. The Muslims were offered by ISIS a drink on their first date and the rape drug was there.
Unconscious, Muslims were unaware of the ugly face that ISIS has been keeping behind the smiles. Behind the flag that the Muslims loved because it is the same flag of the Prophet of Islam. Almost powerless, Muslims are raped with crimes being done in their name and the victims are the Muslims themselves.
According to the International Counter-Terrorism Database, up to 92% of ISIS victims are Muslims while the rest are mostly Non-Muslim Non-combatants.
While ISIS murder Muslims, the news of this scandal reach many Muslims but they simply shrugged it off. The Muslims are now in the state of denial that their heroes are killing fellow Muslims. They just swallow the pain and accept the justification that whoever ISIS kills amongst the Muslims are hypocrites or fake Muslims and therefore deserve to die. ISIS continues to ravage Syria, Iraq and the Middle East and many of their sympathizers are celebrating the victory of their heroes against the infidels and the hypocrites. They even send people to other countries such as France, Turkey, and others to lay claim to their self-proclaimed rule. People were sent to the suicide mission to kill the innocent, whether Muslims or Non-Muslims, to destroy properties and even places of worship of other people.
While all these were making news, the scholars spoke, this is all wrong they say. But then the ISIS supporters amongst Muslims are easy to dismiss this. They made all sorts of attempts to justify the killings and even vilify the scholars by calling them Satans, Western puppets or even barking dogs. All these bad names they call the people who call them back towards the methodology of the Prophet that their heroes have been violating over and over again.
ISIS has not only wrecked havoc upon lives and properties but upon the religious belief of Muslims as well. Muslims got polarized and took sides on the issue and have been divided. When the crime is done, we could only watch in horror what just happened. It’s already too late. Syria, Iraq, Marawi City is already almost completely destroyed.
It only then do we realize that things were…. We don’t even know what to think of or believe in anymore.
In the morning, Muslims look at the mirror, trying to make sense of things. They tried to talk to somebody and a case was made against its rapist – ISIS. But ISIS spoke back, blaming the Muslims. The rapist argued that he was invited to do it. Saying that they did all these rampages in the name of Islam and the interest of the Muslims.
And the uninformed public majority spoke too, blaming the Muslims for letting ISIS rape them. The same way the public blamed the Maranao people entirely for sympathizing with the terrorists, which is totally untrue.
Muslims were the victims and yet and they are now the ones being labeled as terrorists. Being profiled, scrutinized, subjected to Martial Law, asked for IDs, frisked and checked unlike any other all the while being collectively judged.
We all have been victims of a crime or injustice in one way or another. Some of us may have been victimized by pickpockets, snatchers, burglars or may even have lost loved ones to murderers. But the worst crime may be in terms of physical and psychological effect may be that of rape. I am no expert but based on what victims, doctors, and psychiatrists have said about the matter, being raped, while being in the process is hard enough, it is also hard to move on from even if you survive.
Physically, being raped is having your morality, sanity, sanctity, and humanity violated. You are put in a position where humans are not biologically made for. While being raped you physically, mentally and emotionally exhaust yourself going back and forth between denying and accepting the reality that you cannot do anything to stop it. To stop a crime that is usually done by someone they knew or may even have known to be nice people as in many cases of rape done by neighbors, friends or relatives.
Rape victims who survived are actually about to face more horror. Most rape victims are even blamed by the rapist to have given them sexual innuendos or motives to do the crime. Most rape victims are also blamed even by the society that is supposed to protect them from it and help them move on. A society that stigmatizes them instead for a crime that was done to them.
I don’t know of any pain to tell you about in order to show you how painful it is to be a Muslim in these trying times. When you are the victim and yet, you are the one who is being judged. When you may have started something for this crime to happen due to your ignorance, innocence or being unaware and yet people blame you as if it is you who planned it. That your vulnerability was more criminal than what the criminal did to you.
On behalf of all Muslims, I wish to address to your better nature. To be one with the Muslims in this fight for terrorism as they are one with you too. Like real brothers and sisters in humanity, Muslims and Non-Muslims have a common enemy to face that cannot be defeated except by fighting together and not against each other.
