Presidential son Sebastian ‘Baste’ Z. Duterte finally filed his certificate of candidacy as the running-mate of his sister incumbent Sara Z. Duterte-Carpio, endings days of speculation in the past days.
Duterte was accompanied by his sister, Mayor Sara, at the Commission on Election (Comelec) office at the Ramon Magasaysay Park 12:00 noon of Wednesday.
The presidential son said he has been thinking it months ago and having difficult time to decide since he has no experience in politics. “It is a long process and I thought about it, month ago and it is not an easy decision for me but eventually, I need to decide,” he said. He said before filing his COC, he talked to his father President Duterte on his political bid and the latter gave him a go signal. “Sabi niya sa akin na trabaho lang (My father advised me to just do my job),” he said. Duterte also admitted that there were some misunderstandings with her sister at first because he refuse when the mayor asked him if he will be running for the post.
“Umayaw ako kasi nga medyo bago sa akin nabigla ako (I refused because I was shocked since it is new to me),” he said. Despite the lack of experience, Duterte said he could serve the city the best that he can if he will be elected by the people. “All I can offer is my honesty and genuine service to the people,” he said.
The presidential son said he will not promise the people what he can do because they might assume and expect more from him. Duterte also denied that his filing is a preparation for substitution for her sister’s senatorial bid
