Members of the Association of Mindanao Rural Electric Cooperatives (AMRECO) are set to converge in Cagayan de Oro City for their first annual general membership assembly and summit on November 25-26.
The event will be facilitated jointly with the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA).
The summit will be joined by leaders and representatives of electric cooperative constituencies, member consumers and other significant stakeholders in Mindanao.
Invited to speak during the two-day event are top officials from the Department of Energy (DOE), the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), National Electrification Administration (NEA) and MinDA.
The general assembly and summit will carry the theme: “Federalism: Its impact on Mindanao Electric Cooperatives and Member Consumers.”
AMRECO said that the summit will be a perfect occasion for the participants to grasp the pulse of the power development plans for Mindanao in the advent of federalism under the leadership of President Duterte.
The group also hoped that the gathering will provide effective venue for the energy stakeholders in Mindanao to derive insights on the proposed federal system of government as a key component in government reforms towards a hastened economic development, better financial mobilization and greater budget and fiscal autonomy in the regions.
President Duterte was also invited to become the guest speaker of the event but no confirmation yet as of press time if the President can join the electric cooperatives on the occasion.
Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, chair of the Committee on Energy of the Senate will speak on the impact of federalism on the power industry while Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III will give an input on Federalism in the Philippines.
