Nearly 100 developers of commercial and residential estates in Davao City, mostly the small ones, have reportedly violated the law by starting their projects without first procuring the required permits.
For their unlawful acts, the erring developers will have to be criminally charged and their Illegally built structures being demolished, which means billions of pesos of investment going down the drain.
City Planning and Development Office head Ivan Chin Cortez disclosed this on Wednesday after finding these developers have proceeded with the construction phase of their projects without securing local permits required by the city government, aside from violating the National Building Code and related City Zoning Ordinance.
The city government unit as the law implementor should now file the necessary court charges if only to teach the violators and other developers that it does not pay to violate the law.
Cortez, however, said that while the violators are aplenty involving mostly small developers, the so-called big players have faithfully complied with the law.
Well, maybe a city ordinance giving rewards and incentives to law-abiding deelopers is in order.
