Davao City is no doubt among, if not the preferred business expansion for real estate developers in the country. The construction boom in recent years is the living testament to this.
Along with the mushrooming property development in the city, come with it the inflow of revenues. However, it also come with it the growing concerns for violations committed by overeager developers wanting to make quick sale out of the investments poured into the city.
The City Planning and Development Office discovered nearly 100 real estate development firms who have commenced construction and development without having procured the necessary local permits. Another issue is the violations to the building code and zoning laws of the city.
Hence, the spectre of being fined and sanctioned as a consequence thereof is unavoidable. At worst, these development companies may even have the structures illegally built by them demolished.
There is the danger of losing investors in the process but the city government would rather have the laws imposed and lose investments rather than allow violators to continue their business and leave nothing for the city.
Davao City is known for its political will and uncompromising stance when it comes to implementing its laws. The recent discovery and the steps taken to prevent such violations show that doggedness when it comes to keeping all entities comply with the mandate of doing business in the city.
These violators will have to deal with it or take their business elsewhere.
