The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority kicked off Monday regional skills competition featuring 25 competitors from the five provinces of Region XI.
Gaspar Gayona, TESDA regional director said the competitions are currently being held in two sites: the Regional Training Center- Korea Philippines Vocational Training Center, Davao and at the Holy Child College of Davao.
The competitions are expected to wrap up today, Tuesday.
The area for competition, adopted and aligned with the ASEAN skills competition include: Automotive Technology, Beauty Therapy, Cooking, Electrical Installation , Graphic Design Technology, Hairdressing, Information Network Cabling, IT Network System Administration, It Software Solution for Business, Mechanical Engineering CADD, Mechatronics, Plumbing and Heating, Refrigeration and Air-conditioning, Restaurant Services, Web services, Welding, Power Rice Machinery and Motorcycle Technology.
“It is a show of competence and world-class skills in various trade qualifications,” said Gayona.
The 25 competitors are competing in this year’s skills competition for Gold, Siler and Bronze medal and the corresponding cash prize o9f P5, 000, P3, 000 and P2, 00 and a Certificate of Excellence for a minimum total score of 50points will be given to the successful competitors during the recognition.
Gayona said that skills competition is mandated by the TESDA law to determine how competitive have the programs developed in preparation for the ASEAN integration.
“We were once the number one in ASEAN, We have world winnersin welding most of them are women,” said Gayona.
The winners of the 2017 Regional XI Skills Competition will represent the Regional in Mindanao Zonal Battle of the Best in December, 2017 who will eventually advance to the Philippine National Skills Competition in 2018.
Winners of the PNSC will represent the country in the 12th ASEAN Skills Competition in Thailand in 2018. The winners of the ASC will represent the ASEAN in the 2019 World Skills Competition in Russia.
