Guard arrested for gun-running

A security guard was arrested for alleged illegal possession of firearms and ammunitions after the implementation of search warrant at around 6:30 a.m. yesterday, Tuesday.

Arrested was Felix A. Sabanal, male, married, 62, resident of Purok Cogon, Matina Aplaya, Davao City.

The suspect is a newly identified member of Sabani CG syndicate, believed involved in gun-running activity within Davao City and some neighboring provinces.

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) – Davao City Field Unit, led by PCI Milgrace Driz, together with police officers from Talomo Police Station and Intelligence unit of Davao City Police Office (DCPO) conducted OPLAN Paglalansag Omega and OPLAN Salikop by implementing a search warrant at Purok Cogon.

Search Warrant No. 1999 was issued by Executive Judge Emmanuel C. Carpio RTC 11 in Davao City dated October 26, 2018.

Recovered from his possession and concealment are one 9mm cal. pistol with one 9mm magazine inserted with eight 9mm live ammunition, one 9mm magazine with nine live ammos, one .38 caliber revolver loaded with four 9mm live ammo, one.38 caliber revolver, one black gun case, three 9mm live ammo, four .30 caliber live ammos, two .45 caliber live ammos and one.38 caliber live ammos.

The search was implemented peaceful and orderly manner and witnessed by a barangay kagawad, media representative and Department of Justice representative. The arrested person was brought to the police for booking and documentation and will further brought to Talomo Police Station for safekeeping.

Documents are being prepared for filing an appropriate case in violation of the provisions of RA 10591 otherwise known as Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunitions.

According to Driz this kind of operation has been the flagship program of the CIDG RFU11-Davao city Field Unit against those who possessed firearms illegally.

“We intensify our operations against loose firearms in order to lessen and suppressed criminalities and other lawlessness within Davao City and the whole Davao Region as well. We encourage the public to continue to help CIDG-Regional Field Unit through Davao City Field Unit in the implementation of our mandate to seek the truth, to serve and protect the people from lawlessness. I commend my team and the working force for the job well done and challenge to continue to help and implement the full force of the law to the best of our ability,” she said.
