5 drug peddlers nabbed in stings

Five suspected drug peddlers were arrested and one firearm was recovered in four separate buy-bust operations in the city on Sunday.

“PRO 11 continues the interventions and countermeasures implemented all throughout the region to deter the occurrences of criminality,” said Chief Supt. Marcelo C. Morales,  director of Police Regional Office 11.

He said the measures comprised of checkpoints, Oplan Bakal, or Sita, (campaign against loose firearms) and the mobile and foot patrol to enhance crime prevention and crime solution.

Police personnel of the Davao city Police Office (DCPO), particularly Sasa Police Station, conducted a buy-bust operation at 2:30 in the afternoon at Purok 10 of barangay Tibungco.

The operation resulted to the arrest of James Castro, single, 29, public utility jeepney (PUJ) conductor and Mar Aries Darvin, single, 28, also PUJ conductor, both  residents of Purok 10.

Confiscated from the suspects’ possession were sachets of suspected shabu and P500 marked money.

Another buy-bust operation was conducted 2:50 PM, by DCPO and Bunawan Police Station personnel in Budbud, Bunawan resulting in the arrest of Alvin Velasco, married, 56, unemployed and a resident of Bagahay, Baliok, Talomo, Davao City. Confiscated from the suspect were three sachets of suspected shabu and P500 marked money.

In a separate operation, operatives  of Sta. Ana Police Station arrested Ariel Alfaro also known as “Aying”, single, 55, auto mechanic, resident of IWHA Village, Barangay Dumoy.

Confiscated from the suspect were four sachets of suspected shabu, one Suzuki Raider motorcycle bearing plate number 51910 and P500.00 marked money.

Personnel of Sta. Ana Police Station, DCPO and Task Force Davao jointly conducted checkpoint at TF Davao’s fixed checkpoint at Lasang, Davao City resulting in the arrest of one Rogoven Solis, married, 38, unemployed and a resident of Feeder Road 3, Ramon Magsaysay Avenue, Sto. Tomas, Davao del Norte.

Confiscated from the suspects’ possession were one sachet of suspected shabu and one .45 caliber pistol without serial number with one magazine, loaded with four live ammunitions.

Morales said that the successful anti-illegal drug bust operations are part of the aggressive implementation of “Oplan: Double Barrel- Reloaded, a programmatic, deliberate, and sustainable anti-criminality approach of the PNP.”

In Davao City, all vehicles and passengers entering Davao City are subjected to routine inspection. This helps in maintenance of peace and order and deterrence to terror threats in the city.

“All arrested suspects are now detained at the custody of the operating units while documents are being prepared for filing of case for violation of RA 9165 better  known as Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and Solis for Ra 10591 better known Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunitions,” Chief Inspector Jason Baria, spokesperson of PRO 11 said.
