A video karera machine was impounded by police operatives after conducting a raid in Purok 9, Bucana, Seawall, Barangay 76-A on Sunday.
The police acted through an information relayed to the “Isumbong mo okay CD” hotline. The unidentified concerned citizen reported the allegedly rampant operation of illegal gambling machine in the area.
Upon receiving the information, a team of intelligence operatives of San Pedro Police Station were dispatched in the area to take appropriate action.
The operation resulted to the confiscation of one Video Karera machine left unattended in a side alley in the area and is now in the custody of the police station.
According to Senior Inspector Catherin Dela Rey, spokesperson of Davao City Police Office (DCPO), in the city there are still few illegal gambling machines such as video karera which are all subject of the DCPO’s anti-illegal gambling campaign.
“Our illegal-gambling campaign does not only focus on card gambling, tong-its; we also include the video kareka and illegal bet computer games,” Rey said in an interview on Monday.
She said that people engage in gambling because the influence of other people who have had successes in the illegal betting game.
“If you bet your money gets doubled or tripled if you win that is why some are enticed to engage in such activities,” she said.
She said that DCPO is thankful for the help of the community in reporting illegal activities in their area. She also urges the Barangay to keep monitoring their area for illegal gambling and report immediately.
In 2018, there are 19 confiscated video karera machines in the city all are confiscated.
She said there were no one was caught in the act of using or operating the video karera, the 19 machines are confiscated and were left unattended.
