Davao City signs P500M deal with Camella, SMDC

The city government of Davao has signed an agreement with Camella Communities and SM Development Corp. for the P500 million land development project covering a 20-hectare land in Barangay Lasang.

Mayor Sara Z. Duterte-Carpio, who signed the agreement last October 26, said the project is part of her priority projects in the government to provide a shelter for those who do not have places to live.

“Housing is a top priority for the City Government, and during my State of the City Address earlier this month, I announced that discussions are underway to develop our property in Lasang to make it suitable for housing purposes,” she said on City Information Office press released.

The agreement states, that Camella will shoulder more than P130 million, while SMDC will shell out P322.4 million for the projects.

The entire development will cost about P500 million which includes roads, drainage and electricity systems, among others.

Under the Agreement, SMDC will develop 15 hectares of the area owned by the city government while Camella, through Vista Land, will develop the remaining five hectares.

“We make good on our promise as we officially seal our agreement on the land development, including the development of open spaces, roads, drainage and other facilities, of said property,” Duterte-Carpio said.

“We thank Communities Philippines and SMDC for working with us in the City Government and the Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board (HLURB) for the land development of the city government property in Lasang, as part of our compliance with the Urban Development and Housing Act of 1992 requiring developers to develop an area for socialized housing,” she added.

For now, talks are ongoing with the National Housing Authority (NHA) for the construction of the housing.
