The local government of Davao City is now gearing up for the Christmas Lantern-making competition dubbed as “Parolan sa Barangay” for this Pasko Fiesta sa Davao, which will take place two weeks from now.
Jose Ong, community affairs officer, said during the Ispeak media forum Thursday that this year’s Parolan sa Barangay focus on the “Winter Wonderland” Concept.
“The Christmas Lantern-making competition per barangay will light the merry spirit of Christmas that will invite and attract the residence and guest in our city through the ingenuity and fine craftsmanship of Dabawenyos,” he said.
Ong said that contest is open to all individuals or group who are residents of Davao City with a maximum of two entries per barangay and must be endorse by the Punong Barangay.
“Lanterns should not exceed the size of 4 feet or 1.2 Meters in diameter but should not be less than 3×3 feet. The parol should not weight more than five kilos,” said Ong.
According to Ong, craftsmen may use any or combination of materials that can withstand the variant weather of Davao.
He said that entries shall be submitted and displayed at Malfori Botanical Garden from December 1 until December 6.
Parolan sa Barangay criteria for judging are 20 percent originality, 30 percent creativity, 30 percent craftmaship, 10 percent appeal and impact in day and night.
The prizes to be awarded are the following: P20, 000 for first place, P15, 000 for second place, P10, 000 for third place, P8, 000 for fourth place, P5, 000 for fifth place and P2, 500 for the 15 consolation prizes.
