Driver in drug use unmasked

A public utility jeepney driver turned out positive for drug use during the OplanUndas Spot conducted at the Almendras Gym, according to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.

The activity conducted partnership with the Land Transportation and Regulatory Board drew 1,500 participants  with 60 public utility jeepney and taxi drivers undergoing the test. Only one turned out positive but his name was withheld for further confirmation.

PDEA regional director, Antonio Rivera said that there will be a confirmatory test if one resulted positive.

“If the result is still positive we will inform the LTFRB or the Land Transportation Office (LTO) so that they will inform the concerned driver and manager of the bus or van company. That person will be subjected to rehabilitation programs of the government.

Since the confirmatory test will still be done, the identity of the driver was not yet revealed.

Rivera said that this is first of its kind to be implemented here in the region and has started on Monday which aims to conduct surprise drug testing in different bus, vans, barge andjeepney drivers in the city.

“We already subjected 92 driversinto a drug test (since Monday)including those barge drivers and their crew which resulted to negative, meaning they all passed. We are very happy of the result,” Rivera said during the weekly AFP-PNP Southern Mindanao Press Corps press conference at the Royal Mandaya Hotel on Wednesday.

He added that they also conducted surprise drug testing on the same day at Davao City Overland Transport (DCOT), Bangkerohan, Gaisano mall Bajada, Victoria Plaza Terminals.

“We will also include ports in this drug tests,” he said.
