Ecoland shooting victim identified

The slain person in last Wednesday’s shooting incident  near Ice Giants bistro in Sandawa, along Quimpo Blvd at Ecoland, Davao City has been identified.

On Sunday, one Merriam Tani, 27, female, housekepper and resident of B1 L1 DLF Dumoy, Davao City personally appeared at Talomo Police Station to identifiy the victim.

According to her, the victim is her live-in partner, Nilo Regil Monterola alias Dodong Cabo, 38, male and construction worker.

Chief Inspector Ronald Lao, Talomo Police Station commander, told Edge Davao on Monday that the motive of crime is personal grudge.

“The victim came from a court hearing but upon his return home with his companion, the person he is in conflict with shot him,” Lao said.

The case involving the victim and suspect has been elevated to the court after it was not settled in the barangay conciliation.

Lao said the suspect is identified as one Carlo Cystal Salle. No further information was given as it may affect the investigation.

The initial Investigation revealed that on Wednesday, around 5:20 in the afternoon tMonterola and his companion were waiting for a public utility vehicle when the gunman appeared.

Investigation showed that Salle, the gunman, calmly approached the two then shot at the victim. Monterala’s companion fled at the sound of gunfire. Before leaving the crime scene the suspect shot the victim again in the head.

The suspect ran away from the crime scene going towards the Quimpo Boulevard while holding his firearm.

However a private vehicle accidentally hit the suspect who fell to the ground. The suspect managed to stand up and run away but he left his firearm.

Further investigation revealed that the suspect boarded a waiting taxi unit in Central 911 office going to SIR Phase II.

The victim was brought to Southern Philippines Medical Center for medical treatment.

Recovered from the crime scene are one unit of .45 colt gun, five live ammunition, two empty shells of .45 colt, one deformed slug and one magazine under the custody of Talomo Police Station.
