A total 3,500 student leaders attended the launching of the Kabataan Kontra Droga at Terorismo program at the RMC Filoil Flying V Arena on Friday.
The students represented the Maa National High school, Sta. Ana National High school, Philippine Women’s College of Davao, Holy Cross Davao, Daniel R. Aguinaldo National High School, Madapo National high school, Rizal Special Education Learning Center, Lamb of God SPED Academy , Young Men’s Christian Association, Panabo Sanggunian ng Kabataan federation, Rizal Memorial College and Davao Merchant Marine Academy College Of Southern Philippines.
The launching of this program was graced by the former Special Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go together with Chief Supt. Marcelo Morales, regional director of the Police Regional Office (PRO) 11; Benito de Leon, head of Public Safety and Security Command Center (PSSCC), Police Supt. Maximo F. Sebastian Jr., commander of Regional Mobile Force Battalion 11, and other partners.
“Thank you for inviting me here today in this event, it is wonderful to join our fellow crusaders in a battle against illegal drugs and crimes here in my hometown Davao City,” Go said
Go urged the youth to participate in sports instead of engaging in illegal drugs and committing crime.
He also said that the participants should listen to the guest speakers who will discuss on highlighted topics because this will be for their own good.
According to Police Inspector Ervin Keith Urbiztondo, Police Community Relations of RMFB-Davao said that after the launching they will proceed with the phase two which is the mobilizing stage.
“We will personally engage the youth through school forums and symposiums in the partnership with the local government units and other government agencies,” Urbiztondo said.
He said that they expect that with this program, the youth will be more knowledgeable about how to deal with terrorism and drugs and also how to fight criminalities and insurgencies.
The schedule of the implementation of phase two in Davao city is still be being coordinated with the Department of Education.
He said that this is a region-wide program and hopes to launch this project in other provinces.
Discussed in the symposium, are the topics related to drugs and terrorism, counter measures and empowerment through education.
He assured the parents and guardians of the students that in this partnership, all information relayed by the students will be treated as confidential and discreet and their identities.
