The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Davao Region has assisted 8, 840 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) from January to November 2018, a three-percent decrease as compared to the 9,135 assisted MSMEs in the same period last year.
Edwin O. Banquerigo, DTI 11 assistant regional director, said on Thursday during the Annual Media Interface at Pinnacle Hotel and Suites that the primary reason for the decrease is that some of the MSMEs ventured into e-commerce.
The recorded 8, 840 assisted MSMEs already made up 63 percent of the target number of 14,000 MSMEs to be assisted by DTI for 2018.
“The DTI recorded around 12,000 MSMEs in the region but some e-commerce MSMEs are unregistered,” said Banquerigo.
The data also revealed that out of 8, 840 MSMEs, 54 percent of these are registered and 46 percent are unregistered.
Banquerigo said that with the 54 percent registered businesses, 70 percent are new businesses and 30 percent are existing businesses assisted by DTI.
He added that 31 percent of the MSMEs assisted belong to the DTI priority industries such as manufacturing, construction and services.
With the 31 percent of MSMEs belong to the DTI priority industries, the data revealed that there are 95 investors and 130 exporters assisted in the priority industries.
The agency also reported that there were 10 seminars conducted during the Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan trade fairs.
During the seminars, there were 370 participants on entrepreneurship and 203 participants on livelihood seminars.
The data shows that there were 17 MSMEs assisted during the TNK trade fairs with the P60, 095 total sales generated.
Aside from the 17 MSMEs, DTI also provided assistance to 139 MSMEs. A total of 82 MSMEs provided with assistance in terms of access to finance and 57 MSMEs provided with business consultancy services.
As the number of assisted MSMEs increased, Banquerigo said that the number of Negosyo Centers (NC) established in the region has increased as well.
He said that there are now 12 new NC established and 37 NC maintained. The annual report also states that 100 percent of the businesses or about 9,441 out of 9,470 businesses registering through NC are getting registered within 15 days only.
