Over 2,000 families to join OFW day

Over 2,000 active and inactive Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and their families from the different barangays in Davao City and nearby provinces in Region 11 are expected to join this year’s OFW family day on December 16, at the Barangay Gymnasium, Mintal, Davao City.

Carmelo T. Elaya, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration XI (OWWA) programs and services division chief, said on Friday during the Kapehan sa PIA that the annual celebration spearheaded by the OWWA 11aims to gather the OFWs and their families to spend quality time with their loved ones in an atmosphere of fun and wholesome entertainment.

“Everything is now in place for the region’s celebration of the 24th OFW family day on Sunday,” said Elaya.

With its local theme: “Pamilyang Mapagmahal, Matatag at Masaya: Tanda ng Matagumpay na Bansa”, the region has lined up entertainment and surprise packages for the OFWs and their families.

According to Elaya, among the highlights of the program include informative games and showcasing of talents of the members of different OFW Family Circles (OFCs) in Region 11.

“Participants will be entitled for a raffle coupon to get a chance to win fabulous prizes during the raffle draw courtesy of OWWA and this year’s social partners,” he added.

Aside from entertainments, there are also various handicraft and food products of the OFCs exhibit and for sale during the event.

Elaya said that Davao City Mayor Sara Z. Duterte-Carpio, Councilor Antoinette G. Principe-Castrodes, DOLE11 Regional Director Raymundo G. Agravante, and OWWA Trustee lawyer Antonio B. Partoza, Jr. are expected to grace the event.

“This year’s celebration is made possible through the sponsorship of the following social partners: Brgy. Council of Mintal, Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), Paramount Life and General Insurance Corp., Philam Life, RD Pawnshop, and Association of Recruitment Agencies in Davao, Inc. (ARADI),” he said.
