Phoenix Petroleum Philippines has set aside a total of P1 million as budget for the staging of “Torotot Festival” in New Year’s Eve this year. According to Ben Sur, Phoenix corporate affairs manager, the unique festival will feature three new component competitions to spice up the festival to be incorporated with Davao City’s torotot fest for the first time.
Sur said the festival’s three components are the Giant Torotot competition (in size), the Torotot-inspired costume contest and the Torotot group dance tournament.
“Torotot Festival is one way of supporting LGU-Davao City’s advocacy of zero-casualty and zero-firework-related injuries during the celebration of New Year,” said Sur.
Firecrackers and fireworks have banned in Davao City since 2002, a rule that is strictly enforced by local law enforcement unit.
“ We ensure Dabawenyos that this year’s Torotot Festival is bigger and grander than before,” Sur added.
Dan Salvaño, Phoenix Torotot festival director, said the company is now 50 percent ready for staging the event slated on December 31 at the Rizal Park.
Salvaño said all barangays are invited to add glimmer to the year-end celebration participating at the various competitions.
“Competition is open to all Dabawenyos . Interested participants can get entry forms at the City Tourism Operations Office located at the 2nd floor of Pasalubong center and the following Phoenix stations: Toril, Pociano and Lanang,” he said.
