A Davao City police officer is facing charges for indiscriminate firing after a heated altercation with his common-law-partner on Sunday.
The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) identified the suspect as PO1 Glonard Bryan Maneja, 31, who is currently assigned at City Mobile Force Company of DCPO (DCPO-CMFC).
DCPO director Sr. Supt. Alexander Tagum said Maneja will face charges for violation of election gun ban as well as alarms and scandal after his neighbors in Shrine Hills, Matina felt the threat.
“I have referred him to our Investigation Detection Management Branch and Talomo Police Station for the filing of criminal charges against Maneja,” he said.
Tagum said one of the neighbors reported the incident to the police. Maneja, who is believed to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident, had a verbal exchange with his partner that led him to fire his service pistol seven times.
He said investigators will also ask Maneja’s partner if she is interested to file a case for violation of Republic Act 9262 or the Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children.
Tagum said aside from the criminal charges against Maneja, the latter will also face administrative charges particularly grave misconduct.
“For the information of everybody, the pre-charge investigation has now started because our ultimate aim is for his dismissal from the service,” he said.
Investigators also found that the suspect has already a record of being violent during his training days at the Regional Training Center as he went amok there. Tagum said Maneja has been in the service for three years and he served his two years at the DCPO-CMFC.
Maneja was already submitted for inquest proceedings before the City Prosecution Office for the criminal charges filed against him.
Tagum reminded other cops to avoid drinking alcohol to avoid violent outbursts.
The city’s top cop warned that he will not hesitate to remove them from the service if they will not follow this order.
