Some 800 government and non-government stakeholders from all over Davao region attended the regional town hall held in Davao City on July 15 to address key issues of the region leading to PRRD’s SONA.

The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Budget and Management (DBM) and the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) organized the nationwide Dagyaw: Open Government and Participatory Governance Regional Townhall Meeting 2019 to discuss and address key issues in the regional level.

Dagyaw provides an opportunity for the local stakeholders to clarify and ask questions straight to some top government officials. It intends to communicate the good governance reforms of the Duterte administration.

“Ang ibig sabihin ng Dagyaw ay hiligaynon for bayanihan. Magtulungan po tayo para ma-iangat ang ating bayan,” said PCOO Assistant Secretary Kris Ablan.

The PCOO, in coordination of Philippine Information Agency (PIA) – Mindanao, has identified TRAIN 2, Build Build Build and Violent Extremism among major concerns of the Davao region.

Some questions raised are the long overdue Samal-Davao Bridge, Digos-Davao-Tagum railway and effects of taxation in inflation and oil price hike.

Dagyaw aims to create a mechanism for citizen engagement in programs related to frontline service delivery such as health, education, housing, electricity, and infrastructure, as well as anti-corruption efforts.

“This is also a good venue for the government to answer and clarify questions from the public”, said Alex Roldan, DILG XI regional director.

Roldan said that he encourage the agency regional officials to open their offices for the public to better understand what the administration is doing.

The regional town hall was first launched in Pampanga last July 2 and Cebu last July 9. Dagyaw will also reach Koronadal City, Manila, Tacloban, Butuan, Cagayan de Oro, Batangas, Calapan, Tuguegarao City, Pangasinan, Albay, Iloilo, Baguio City and Zamboanga City.
