The newly-elected officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines-Philippine National Police (AFP-PNP) Press Corps Southern Mindanao for 2019- 2020 formally took oath on Wednesday, July 17, at the Royal Mandaya Hotel.
Department of Interior Local Government (DILG) secretary Eduardo Año, who was in town for the Pre-Sona at SMX Convention Center in SM Lanang Premier, presided over the oath taking that was also graced by Police Regional Office (PRO) 11 Police Major Jason Baria, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Davao City field unit head Police Major Milgrace Driz, Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom) spokesperson Lt. Colonel Ezra Balagtey and 10th Infantry Division (ID) spokesperson Major Jerry Lamosao.
The new set of officers who took their oath of office were re-elected president Ruth Palo Dumandan of Mindanao Daily Mirror, Vice President (VP) for Print Grace Saron of Mindanao Times, VP for Television Christy Casilagan of SMNI, VP for Radio Armando Fenequito of Radyo Pilipinas, VP for photojournalists Bing Gonzales of Mindanao Times, secretary Rose Bernales of Sonshine Radio, treasurer Edith Talindan Isidro of Philippine Information Agency (PIO), auditor Jeepy Compio of Superbalita and Public Information Officer Angie Chagas of Bombo Radyo Davao.
Also pledged their service as board of directors were Juliet Revita of Sunstar Davao, Bien Abalos of DXGN 89.9 Spirit FM and Davao Catholic Herald Newspaper, Richy Nalagon of Superbalita, Max Anaten of Brigada News Davao and Adam Morrell of Edge Davao.
DILG secretary Año, meanwhile, reminded the officers that journalists hold a very big responsibility in the society.
“Your reports can make or break a person just as easily as it could an organization or even an entire nation. I ask you to stand with us to maintain the peace and order in the country. Support the military and law enforcement, and help keep our people update on the matters involving law and orders,” Año said.
The AFP-PNP Press Corps is an aggrupation of journalists including television, print, radio, photojournalists, videographers and web based reportera in Southern Mindanao who, in one time or another, have covered the defense beat.
“We are media practitioners who are for peace not war, for love not hatred, and for unity not conflict,” the AFP-PNP Press Corps president said.
The group conducts weekly presscon that is open not only concerning AFP-PNP issues and development but also open for any group, government officials, city offices, and national government agencies, among others.
AFP-PNP Press Corps’ media briefing is usually set every Wednesday at the Royal Mandaya Hotel.
