MATI CITY– Newly-installed Mati City Mayor Michelle Rabat is instituting a clean-up drive in and out of City Hall.
Mayor Rabat said in an interview that they are now doing “forensic auditing” on all government offices to determine if there were anomalies committed particularly corruption.
Rabat said this is part of her administration’s policy on transparency and accountability.
Mayor Michelle said that they are particularly looking into the local finance offices composed of the City Planning, the Accounting, the Treasury, and the Budget Office.
“When you say forensic audit it simply means meron kang kukuning evidence sa huli. Na kapag may makuhang ebidensya, yun ang kailangan panagutan. Pag may anomalous transaction kailangan nyong tumugon. I’m not passing judgment ha, ang akin lang kung ano ang lumalabas, kung naa man, sa dokumento,” said Rabat during her first press conference with the Davao Region media on Thursday, July 18 at the Lanes Restaurant function room.
Rabat also ordered all employees to report early in their respective offices so that they could achieve more in a day.
“As the saying goes, early birds catch worms,” she said.
The lady mayor said that with the presence of all government employees in their respective offices, the government could readily address the paperworks and thereby cutting the red tape in the government.
“Ang proseso mas madali kasi andyan yung tao na magsa-sign or mag-address. So naka-cut yung red tape as of now. So I hope ma-sustain,” she said.
Outside of city hall, the mayor’s first directive was for the public market cleanup saying that doing so is symbolic as the Madang Public Market is the “heart and soul” of the city as this is where people buy their sustenance on a daily basis.
