Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-Davao Region Regional Director Ruben D. Abaro, Jr. announced on Thursday that PSA-Davao Region has already turned over a total of 1.4 million Philippine Identification (PhilID) cards to the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) for delivery to registrants who completed their Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) registrations in Davao Region.
“The latest information that we received from our national statistician, for Region 11 we have already turned over a total of 1.4 million PhilID to the PHLPost for the distribution or delivery to the residents,” Abaro said during the news conference on the 2021 Economic Performance of Davao Region by the Philippine Statistics Authority 11 (PSA 11).
Abaro also reported that for the Davao Region based on the results of PSA’s census there are a total of 3.3 million who already accomplished the Step 2 biometrics registration from the more than five million population of the region.
“We hope we will continue particularly in Davao City as there was a slow down during Step 3 of the registration. We are now focusing on that so that we can achieve our target,” Abaro said.
PhilSys Step 3 Registration involves the generation of a unique PhilSys Number (PSN) and issuance of the PhilID. The PSA partnered with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) for card production while the PHLPost administers the door-to-door delivery.
Abaro also said for this year PSA is targeting an additional 42 million to be registered nationwide. Last year, the target was more than 50 million registrants.
“Ang total target natin for this year is 92 million,” he said.
With the increasing number of individuals who have already received their PhilID cards, the PSA continues to call on agencies and private institutions to accept the PhilID as a valid proof of identity.
