PSSO enhances Kadayawan Festival 2023 security plan

Davao City’s Public Safety and Security Office (PSSO) is adjusting its security plan for the 2023 Kadayawan sa Davao Festival in August. One significant change is the rescheduling of the Indak-Indak street dancing competition from its usual morning slot to the afternoon.

Retired Police Colonel Angel Sumagaysay, the head of PSSO, mentioned that they have been preparing the security plan since May. On Wednesday, June 21, the City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO) provided his office with an initial calendar of Kadayawan activities.

“Pero dili pa kumpleto. Hulaton lang nato makumpleto para ma appropriate ang enough security for each event. Dali ra irecalibrate kay in place naman na (But it’s not complete yet. We’ll just wait for it to be completed so that we can provide enough security for each event. It’s easy to recalibrate because it’s already in place),” he said during the Madayaw Davao program of 87.5 FM Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR) aired on Thursday, June 22.

On the afternoon staging of the Indak-Indak sa Kadayawan, Sumagaysay said it would be easy for them to customize the plan.

“Depende unsang oras magsugod sa hapon, mag ready lang ta (Depending on what time it starts in the afternoon starts, let’s just get ready),” he said.

Additionally, he expressed the need to inspect the street lights, particularly those at Rizal Park, to ensure their proper functionality, as the Indak-Indak event may extend into the evening.

The chief of PSSO emphasized that well-functioning street lights would enable spectators to fully experience and enjoy the festivities.

Sumagaysay added that uniformed units are ready to provide security for Dabawenyos and guests. He said, “Kinahanglan ang suporta sa komunidad para mahimong malampuson ang mga activities sa Davao City (The support of the community is necessary for the activities in Davao City to be successful).” CIO
