Construction of terminal building of Mati Airport expected to start this year

Davao Oriental First District Rep. Nelson Dayanghirang told Davao media on Friday that the construction of the terminal building for the much-anticipated Mati City Airport is expected to start this year.

In an interview on the sidelines of the distribution of relief assistance by Senator Sherwin Gatchalian to Davao Oriental mayors over the weekend in Davao City, Dayanghirang said a partial budget for 2024 is already available for the construction.

“For 2024 naay initial budget for the development for the Mati airport considering na ang land area requirements na acquired na when I was still a governor. The said budget is for the construction of the terminal building but we need to expand also the runway. Yung Road Right of Way acquired na yun,” he said.

The proposed P375 million budget for the Mati airport expansion would be utilized to upgrade current infrastructure, enabling the safe and effective operation of turbo propeller aircraft to accommodate flights.

Mati City Airport’s proposed expansion is expected to boost the tourism industry and open more investment opportunities in Davao Oriental.
