Davao City starts delivery of relief aid to calamity-stricken LGUs

Not even calamities can stop Davao City from helping other local government units.

The city government of Davao on Friday commenced the delivery of goods and financial assistance to the local government units (LGUs) in Davao and Caraga Regions recently placed under a state of calamity due to floodings and landslides.

Led by Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) head Alfredo Baloran and the City Mayor’s Office (CMO), teams from the Davao City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) and CDRRMO were deployed to lead the delivery of financial assistance and welfare goods to Davao Del Norte, Davao Oriental, and Davao De Oro.

Trucks bearing the sign “From the People of Davao City” and carrying grocery packs arrived in some of the municipalities of the Davao Region.

On February 6, 2024, the City Council approved P6.1 million from Davao City’s Quick Response Fund (QRF) for financial assistance for two provinces, one city, and 12 municipalities.

The provinces of Davao de Oro and Davao Del Norte were allocated P1 million each while P500,000 will be given to Tagum City; P300,000 is allocated each to the five municipalities in Davao Del Norte namely Kapalong, New Corella, Sto. Tomas, Carmen, and Braulio E. Dujali; three municipalities in Davao Oriental namely Lupon, Cateel, and Tarragona; and four municipalities in Agusan del Sur namely Santa Josefa, Veruela, Loreto, and Bunawan.

These areas were affected by shear line and the trough of the Low Pressure Area (LPA) that occurred last month.

The delivery of goods will continue until next week.
