The city government of Davao is asking the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines-Davao (CAAP-Davao) to act swiftly and improve facilities and services at the Davao International Airport (DIA).
This developed after the city government of Davao continued to receive reports from Dabawenyos and visitors regarding the current condition of the facilities within the DIA.
“This has been a recurring issue. The local government has constantly raised these concerns to the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines 11 (CAAP 11), which is the agency mandated to manage the Davao International Airport, yet we see no significant improvement until today,” the city government said in a statement.
The CAAP has announced the schedule of the closure of the runway at the Davao Airport due to emergency repairs of the runway starting on April 8, 2024. The repair involves the removal of damaged pavement, laying of asphalt, and repainting of runway markings.
The city stated that despite having no direct control over the DIA, the city government continues to support CAAP-Davao in various ways for the welfare of the public.
The city government has augmented security personnel within the DIA compound to ensure the safety and security of passengers and the public.
Recently, the city government turned over additional push carts to the airport to augment its existing inventory for the benefit of all passengers.
“While we acknowledge that CAAP is preparing for the transition of airport management to the Davao International Airport Authority (DIAA), it must not fall short in delivering its mandate to maintain our airports,” it said.
DIAA, which was created through Republic Act 11457 or the “Creation of the Davao International Airport Authority” is an attached agency of the Department of Transportation (DoTr) and this will be located at the DIA.
The DIAA is tasked to undertake the economic, efficient, and effective control management and supervision of the operations of the DIA.
