Lingap continues to help children with disability

The Davao City Social Welfares and Development Office (CSWDO), through the Lingap for the Mentally Challenged, continues to provide services to children with disabilities in the city.

The Lingap for the Mentally Challenged is a temporary care facility that provides homeless, neglected, and abandoned boys with disabilities with residential, medical, and social services.

It is located in Tugbok District.

The facility currently houses 27 children, three of them are siblings who are currently given formal education at the Special Education (SPED) Tugbok.

Ma. Chona Sally Ann Borras, the center’s overseer, in an interview said that in 2024, eight of their clients received financial assistance amounting to P5,000 each as part of the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS).

She added that in 2024, there were five children with mild cases of disability who were involved in making handicraft like pot holders and rags as part of their activities.

Ruel John Aberio, the center’s social worker, said the facility also tries to locate and facilitate the reunion of their clients with their families after thorough assessments.

However, Alberio said, there are cases wherein they cannot reintegrate their clients back to their families because a parent or parents suffer from the same disability as their children.

The CSWDO continues to urge Dabawenyos to treat these children equally and avoid any form of discrimination towards these children.

The public is also urged to report any form of abuse and violence against children to the Kean Gabriel Hotline: 09088184444. CIO
