The City Government of Davao, through the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), gave financial assistance to local government units in the Visayas that were affected by the eruption of Mt. Kanlaon.
On December 9, an eruption occurred at Mt. Kanlaon’s summit vent affecting several areas in the Visayas.
One municipality, three cities, and two provinces were put under a State of Calamity due to the severe impact of the eruption.
On February 2–5, CDRRMO Head Alfredo Baloran personally delivered the assistance to the affected LGUs.
The provincial governments of Negros Oriental and Negros Occidental each received a P1-million financial assistance from the City Government of Davao.
The cities of La Carlota, Canlaon and Bago received P500,000 each, while the Municipality of Villahermoso received P300,000.
Bago City Mayor Nicholas Yulo extended his gratitude to the City Government of Davao for its generosity and unwavering support.
“Malaking tulong ito, on behalf of the people of Bago City, I would like to thank you sincerely for the help that you’ve given us (This is a big help. On behalf of the people of Bago City, I would like to sincerely thank you for the help that you’ve given us),” he said.
Baloran also shared valuable insights on emergency response with the members of Canlaon Incident Management Team.
