Maya on the Block: More than just a ‘Parol’

You know that the Christmas Season has officially arrived when decorations are up in the malls.

One of the most anticipated Christmas installations is Ayala Malls Abreeza’s.

Ayala Malls Abreeza is among those malls that always think out of the box when it comes to eye-catching Holiday sights.

Last year, Ayala Malls Abreeza kicked off the season with a heartwarming Christmas campaign, “Exchange Gift,” under the theme “Unwrap the Present: A Season of Giving,” while in 2022, the mall unveiled its Christmas Tree made in collaboration with the Matigsalug community.

This year, Ayala Malls Abreeza will unveil a much meaningful Christmas decorations that will surely become the perfect backdrop for your next photo with the help of the members of the Down Syndrome Association of the Philippines, Inc.-Davao (DSAPI-Davao).

On September 12, 2024, members from DSAPI-Davao through the creative guidance of T’nalak Home helped Ayala Malls Abreeza in creating beautiful Christmas lanterns for the Yuletide season through a live Christmas parol painting session held at the activity center.

It was a pleasure watching them demonstrate their impressive skills and artistic flair through this activity.
“It is a true honor to collaborate with you this Christmas. Your creativity, passion, and dedication will not only brighten our mall but also fill it with the spirit of inclusion, community, and Filipino celebration. These parols are more than just decorations—they are symbols of love and unity, making this season even more meaningful,” said Janice Parreño, general manager of Ayala Malls Abreeza.

Parreño extended her heartfelt gratitude to the Cristina Foundation for Special Children and the Antonio O. Floirendo Foundation (AOFF).

“We couldn’t do this project without you, and together, we’re making this holiday season an experience that will be cherished by all,” she said.

She also said the collaboration will remind the people of the true essence of the season – love, unity, and the joy of giving.

“We are incredibly proud to stand with all of you in making this holiday celebration something truly extraordinary,” Parreño said.

These vibrant handpainted parols will brighten up your life as these will be displayed around the mall this Christmas season.

Ayala Malls Abreeza expressed its heartfelt thanks to the members of DSAPI-Davao, as well as their supportive families.

In the Philippines, the parol, also known as the Christmas Star Lantern, has come to represent the holiday. The name “Parol” comes from the Spanish word “farol,” which means lantern, the star of Bethlehem that led the Three Wise Men as they set out to find Baby Jesus.

For Ayala Malls Abreeza, these Christmas lanterns are more than just decorations these represent the charm, infectious cheer, and inspiration that the members of DSAPI-Davao bring.
