Maya on the Block: Malls flaunt uniquely Pinoy yuletide season decorations

Christmas is truly not only for the young ones but also for the child in all of us.

The desire of bringing back the feeling of the joyous season of the year during our yesteryears lingers in our thoughts.

What better way to reminisce those times than visiting Davao City’s malls where sparkling lights, glitters and colors of Christmas are magical and almost unending.

As early as October, malls in the city have embellished their halls and unveiled a fluttering, uniquely Filipino touch, and enchanting Christmas installations that bring joy to shoppers.

SM Lanang Premier unwrapped an enchanted Christmas theme, making it the first mall in Davao City to kick off the Christmas season on October 18, 2024.

The star of the mall’s Christmas installation this year is a 55-foot-tall Christmas tree decorated with more than 2,000 butterflies, silver and gold Christmas balls, and life-size reindeers.

The setting for this enthralling sight was the lovely Christmas Forest, which is trimmed out with holiday decorations and sparkling lights.

The enchanting unveiling affair was magnified with ballet performances of Janine Myrtel Arisola and Timothy Paul Cabrera, and independent performing artists Pas de Deux.

Immerse oneself in the magic of the merriest Christmas at Santa’s Toy Wonderland in SM City Davao as everyone’s favorite toys come to life in a gigantic display that delights shoppers of all ages.

SM City Davao urges shoppers to experience fun at Santa’s Toy Wonderland, where toys such as dinosaur, teddy reindeer, nutcracker, gaming set, mini train, and robot happily spread cheers around the sparkling 30-foot-tall Christmas tree.

“During this bustling season, we hope SM City Davao is more than just your favorite place to shop; may we be a place of joy for everyone who walks through our doors,” said Engr. Jonathan Nick Santos, Assistant Vice President for Mindanao operations of SM Supermalls.

The grand launch was graced with performances from celebrity and hip-hop sensation, Kenneth San Jose; Muzic’s Kool Divas; and LCB Performing Arts Center Foundation Company Dancers.

This year, SM Supermalls and SM Cares also introduced the new huggable squad – Mika, Ash, Bree, and Ronnie – that will bring you more than just holiday cheers. Share the joy and get a pair of oval-shaped plushies for P280 at the Bears of Joy Booth in the main mall.

Ayala Malls Abreeza commenced the celebration of this year’s Christmas season with a holiday campaign “Christmas in My Home” and lit up its Christmas tree adorned with “labayen”-designed parol ornaments that were heartily painted by the beautiful members of the Down Syndrome Association of the Philippines (DSAPI)- Davao Branch.

This Christmas, Ayala Malls Abreeza invites everyone to relive the warmth, nostalgia, and beloved traditions that make Christmas uniquely Pinoy.

The mall is celebrating the yuletide season by bringing a holiday experience that truly feels like home through the campaign “Christmas in My Home” putting a spotlight on the Pinoy way of celebrating Christmas with an art-comes-to-life approach by collaborating with artist Robert Labayen, head of ABS CBN Creative Communications Management, to create a series of vibrant and colorful artworks depicting Filipino Christmas traditions such as Simbang Gabi, family and barkada get-togethers, Noche Buena, gift giving with ninong and ninang, the joyous carolers, and the classic Filipino Christmas delicacies.

“May this space bring back wonderful memories of Christmas past, while creating new ones to cherish for years to come. A season filled with togetherness, laughter, and the timeless spirit of Filipino Christmas,” said Ruby Bueno-Ochoa, Ayala Malls Abreeza Marketing Director for VisMin.
