Despite the heightened security measures implemented in the aftermath of the church bombing in Jolo, Sulu, last Sunday Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio is not keen on ordering a lockdown in the city.
According to the dictionary, a lockdown is an emergency measure or condition in which people are temporarily prevented from entering or leaving a restricted area or building during a threat of danger.
“We’re already in Martial Law,” the mayor said on Tuesday afternoon in an ambush interview.
She said that ordering a lockdown will have an economic implication for the city.
Mayor Sara also ordered all security units operating within Davao City, including the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to review their security plans.
Earlier, Public Safety and Security Command Center (PSSCC) head Benito de Leon said that the city mayor instructed all churchgoers not to bring any backpacks, big bags, bulky plastic bags and boxes in churches and places of worship in the city.
De Leon said that churchgoers are advised to bring small handbags or purses in order for security forces to monitor suspicious activities more efficiently.
However, in case churchgoers will be bringing the mentioned
items, the PSSCC head said that they will be ordered to submit themselves for
inspection.
Mayor Sara was the guest of honor and inducting officer during the 51st annual
installation of officers and board of the trustees of the Davao City Chamber of
Commerce and Industry, Inc. (DCCCII) at the Marco Polo Hotel in Roxas Avenue.
The lady mayor assured businessmen and future investors of the city that the local government unit is exerting its effort in ensuring that Davao City is safe. “Our security units in Davao City are doing all that they can to make sure that Davao City is secured peacefully,” Duterte said.
