A surgeon of the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) was arrested in a buy-bust operation early Tuesday morning.
The Sta. Ana Police Station identified the suspect as John Perret Herrera, 33, physician of SPMC, and a resident of New Matina, Gravahan in Davao City.
Police report bared Herrera was arrested after he sold a sachet of Shabu worth P1,000 to a police agent who acted as poseur buyer in a police operation along Suazo Street, around 3:00 a.m. on Tuesday.
Seized from his possession the following items were transparent plastic sachet containing white crystalline substance believed to be Shabu, dried Marijuana leaves, disposable syringe containing suspected liquid and a cellular phone and his car.
The arrested physician reportedly admitted he also sells illegal drugs to some of his friends in the LGBT community whom he met through the social media.
Herrera will be facing chargers for violation of Republic Act 9165 Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and he is detained at Sta. Ana Police Station.
About the same time in October 2017, operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Region XI arrested a surgeon and an environment official in a drug bust for alleged involvement in illegal drugs.
Dr. Stephen So Tay and Benjamin Jaraplasan Medel, officer-in-charge of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office in Region V, were caught in an anti-drug raid in the doctor’s house in San Pedro Village, Barangay Buhangin.
Tay was busted with several sachets of suspected shabu worth around P96,000, assorted drug paraphernalia, a fragmentation grenade, a pick-up allegedly used in the illegal drug trade, and marked money.
