Tan, Briones top Farmer’s Cup Golf tournament

The first Farmer’s Cup golf tournament successfully took off on Saturday May 11, 2024 as mother nature gifted the organizers with a perfect weather.

Not even the heavy downpour the night before that partially affected the South Pacific Country golf clubhouse was able to dampened the spirit of 130 golfers as they answer the call for the System 36 double barrel start golf tournament. The green fairways turned to maroon as UPLB alumni and friends came in full support of this golf for a cause.

“We are elated by the attendance of our friends and golfers, from Davao and from the neighboring areas for supporting this tournament. We are so blessed by the presence of Department of Agriculture regional director Macario “Bong Gonzaga who himself fired off the ceremonial tee “said Ramon Bien, tournament director.

Jing Tan topped all comers with his one over 73 score to pocket the Overall Gross title. Sharing the limelight was Addy Briones who carded a net 69 aided by three birdies to take the Overall Net plum.
Ysrael Abergas (79) got the Class A gross diadem winning via countback over Randall Hooper who settled for first runner up honors. Filomino Mamuad (80) joined them at the podium as second runner up. Atty Robert de Leon (70) emerged as the Net Champion for Class A while Randy Arevalo (71) and Cocoy Alimes (71) settled for the first and second runners up honors.

Andrew Tan (93) won via countback over Juram Victoriano (93) to pocket the Class B Gross title with Argie Bentulan (95) settling for the second runner up honors. Ronald Advincula (71), Dondi Solis (72) and Obet Canilao (73) divided the loot as Net Champion, first and second runner up winners in the division.

Class C Division Gross title went to Bam Joaquim (104) followed closely by Tom Caharian (105) and John Overly (110) for the runners up honors. Andrew Lui (76) got the Net Title while Rico Montecillo (80) and Bernie Ruiz (81) followed suit for the runner up honors.

The Ladies Division Gross title went to Lean Quilat(94) with Ruby Sato coming in as Net Champion with her 74.

Special award was also given to William Mendoza as the nearest to the pin winner with his 4.1 feet effort near the jackpot.

“Your support for this tournament is highly appreciated. This tournament’s proceeds will be used for the donation of egg incubators, technical seminars on livestock management and career orientation for students Cotabato Foundation College of Science and Technology in Arakan, North Cotabto”, said Clarisse Villanueva, PHILSAN president for VisMin.
