800 trees planted in Panabo for Environment Month 2019

800 narra and acacia mangium tree seedlings were planted today by 100 volunteers composed of LGU-Panabo employees, PNP Panabo, Philippine Coast Guard, Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) recipients and private partner Wave Industrial Sales at Brgy. Waterfall.

The seedlings were planted along the boundary surrounding the city’s 10.3 hectare Sanitary Landfill (SLF) project.

Spearheaded by the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), this event is in line with the celebration of the Environment Month 2019 with the theme: “Beat Air Pollution: Managing Solid Waste towards a Pollution-Free Environment.”

“The trees will control the carbon dioxide, methane and other gas emissions from the SLF,” said CENRO Head Engr. Felix Jonases Senajon. He added that in the future this trees will greatly help in preventing soil erosion, waterways pollution and in the reduction of floodwater runoff.

This June, the Environment Month, CENRO will also hold its annual Environment Trade Fair at the Gaisano Grand Mall of Panabo that will showcase poster making contest entries of the students from various schools, environmental information education campaign and other activities that will encourage the Panaboans to care and protect the environment.
