A trustee of the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry described as a very successful event the holding of the 4th Davao Investment Conference at the SMX in Lanang.
“The number of delegates doubled the participants in last year’s staging,” Arturo Milan, DCCCI trustee, told the Kapi at Habi on Wednesday.
In total, there were 540 delegates that attended the event. Another indicator was the quality of the delegates in this year’s ICON, most of whom were from senior management positions.
There were 23 recorded businesses matching events during the two-day event.
Noteworthy, Milan said, were the five highlights of the conference. The first was the announcement of Air Asia in making Davao City as one its hubs for international flights.
The second was the decision of Pt Cement Indonesia to explore the possibility of putting up a cement factory here in the Davao Region.
The third highlight revolves around the decision of the Tan Chong Group, a Malaysian company with the line of business of automobile distribution and tourism related activities, that is looking in areas where it can invest in the Davao region. Another Indonesian Company called PT Audie building Industry is also interested in participating in the National Housing Authority’s Socialize Housing Program.
Milan said this was revealed by Ozie Hansery Moechlis, the Managing Director of Audie Building Industry. The company has been building socialized housing buildings in Africa, Papua New Guinea and East Indonesia.
“They want me to set a meeting with Jun Escalada who is now the administrator of the National Housing Authority because they really wanted to look at the opportunity in the Socialize Housing Program in the Philippines,” he said.
He said the company is not only interested in Mindanao but also in other parts of the Philippines as well.
Already, seven British companies are exploring possibilities into investing in beauty products here. This is in addition to two companies that are already operating after the trade mission by the British Chamber of Commerce this March.
Another British group has been mentioned by Chris Nelson, Executive Chairman of the British Chamber of Commerce that is interested in investing in agriculture. The company is in discussion with ANFLOCOR.
