Around 50 houses went up in smoke when a fire of still undetermined origin struck the Muslim Village along Times Beach in Barangay 76-A, Davao City, Thursday afternoon.
SIR Fire Station investigator Fire Officer 2 (FO2) Eddie Polinar bared that based on their initial investigation, th he fire started in the house of a certain Jassy at around 2 p.m. of October 12.
“Nagsugod daw sa wall nga naay electrical wiring nga naka kuan… pero dila pa nato na ma kuan kung mao gyud ang hinungdan sa point of origin sa sunog (The fire reportedly in the wall of the said house which the electrical wiring was… but we could not say if that caused the fire),” he said.
Polinar said that the fire recorded a total of P1.8 million estimated cost of damage.
Despite the huge fire that razed down the houses, Polinar said that there were no reports of casualty in the said incident.
The fire investigator also brushed off the statement of some residents that there were children trapped when the fire took place.
“Sa among pagpanubay, siguro storya-storya man na kay wala man mi nakita (Maybe it was just a hearsay because we did not see any traces that there were people being trapped when the incident happened),” he said.
According to a certain Jo Lumawan, a 7-year-old kid was locked inside the house when the fire happened since the parents were working.
He said that child allegedly was not able to go out of the house when the incident took place.
Lumawan also described that the fire immediately spread in the area and in just 10 minutes all 50 houses were razed.
The personnel from the Bureau of Fire Protection declared fire under control at around 3:00 p.m. They added they are still doing further investigation on what really triggered the incident.
