Davao City will soon have a mega jail facility of its own that will give comfort to thousands of inmates in the Davao Region.
This was revealed Friday by Jail Officer 2 (JO2) Harvey Malnegro of the regional office of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology Community Relations Service Office.
Malnegro said that the multi-billion peso facility will rise in Barangay Wangan, Calinan district.
He said it is an eight-hectare facility, that can accommodate up to 5,000 inmates.
“It’s a high-end, high-class mega detention facility, “ he said.
Malnegro said the facility will have three three-story buildings with solar panels and waste treatment facility.
“Sa kadako sa area naa siya’y sariling garden para sa mga inmates. So, magiging self-sustainable siya pag abot sa panahon kay mga inmates mismo ang magtanom (With its huge area, there will be a garden for the inmates inside the facility. So, the inmates will be self-sustainable in the future because they will be the one to plant for their food),” Malnegro said.
According to him, they will introduce organic farming inside the jail in order for the inmates to have healthy food.
Malnegro said the bidding has already been done after this was proposed just this year. He said the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH 11) will be the implementing agency and the project is expected to start by first quarter next year. (Armando Fenequito Jr/PNA)
