First day of Misa de Gallo generally peaceful, security forces monitor 38 churches in Davao City

Davao City Police Office (DCPO) director Colonel Kirby John Kraft reported that the first day of Misa de Gallo in the city was generally peaceful with no reported untoward incidents.

Kraft told Edge Davao that DCPO deployed 486 personnel supported by 97 troop members of Task Force Davao, 180 barangay tanods, and 403 members of other security and safety cluster of Davao City to provide security and enforce the basic health protocols in the 38 churches during the first day of Misa de Gallo on December 16, 2021.

He also said that an estimate of 17, 594 Catholics faithful attended the first day in various churches that include Sacred Heart Church, Sta. Ana Church, Fatima Church, Redemptorist Church, Assumption Church, St. Jude Church, San Pedro Cathedral, St. Francis of Assisi Church, Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Holy Spirit Adoration Convent and St. Francis River Chapel, Holy Infant of Jesus Christ Shrine, Ascension Parish (GSIS), San Lorenzo Parish, San Isidro Labrador, San Miguel Parish Church, St. Joseph Parish Church, St. Mary’s Parish Church, St. John the Baptist Church, St. James Apostle, St. Francis Xavier Parish, San Roque Parish Church, and Sto. Rosario Parish Church.

Meanwhile, Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio reminded Dabawenyos that the city government will be implementing the same policy last year for the Misa de Gallo.

“Humana na gimitingan sa atoang security cluster regarding sa policy on Simbang Gabi. It’s the same thing what we’ve done in our Simbang Gabi last year ang importante dinha distancing, face mask, and availability of handwashing facilities or pagdala sa mga tao sa kaugalingon nilang alcohol,” Mayor Sara said.
