More Davao-China Direct flights okayed

The tourism industry of Davao City is expected to receive further boost next year with more investments coming in and more direct international flights scheduled, according to Councilor Al Ryan Alejandre.

Alejandre, the committee chair of the city council’s Tourism and Beautification said that after Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte’s visit to Shanghai, China last month, City Hall is now eyeing more China to Davao direct flights.

Last week, a plane from Xiamen landed in the city to signify the new Xiamen- Davao City direct flight.

“The Xiamen to Davao flight was has already been established, we are now looking on the Guangzhou- Davao direct flight next year,” he said.

Alejandre said that the new international flights in the city are significant since they are expecting over P1 million tourists from China next year.

He said that several investors have also recently visited the city to look into the possible investments that they can pour here; Alejandre though did not disclose the names of the Chinese investors.

“The Chinese government already gave the green lights to their investors to invest here in the country, particularly Davao City,” he said.

Alejandre said that the Chinese government asked them to give the 10 priority projects of the city government and they will be one to look for its investors.

He said that they will look to develop more tourist spots in the city to showcase the city’s rich culture and variety of foods.

He added that they are looking to develop the ancestral domain in Paquibato district to showcase the culture of the indigenous people living there.

“We would like to promote the Paquibato District to showcase the cultures of the lumads living there it is also a good opportunity for our lumads to earn through this,” Alejandre said.
